The Fairacres Garage and Stable, located near Deer Lake in Burnaby, B.C., had a complete transformation from a  historic barn into a fully functional art studio with dedicated administrative offices. Built by Holaco Construction and completed in just nine months, the renovation kept the barn’s historic character while incorporating modern upgrades.

Fairacres achieved the prestigious Rick Hansen Accessibility Certification, ensuring a barrier-free and inclusive environment for all community members. Interior upgrades included modern HVAC and HRV systems for optimal comfort and air quality, as well as low- and line-voltage electrical systems to meet the diverse power needs of the art and office spaces. Major civil works and a hydro service upgrade were also completed to support reliable water, storm, and sanitary services.

In recognition of its commitment to heritage conservation and accessibility, the Fairacres Garage and Stable project was awarded a 2024 Heritage BC Award, highlighting its value to both the community and the province’s built legacy.
