“Sante and Carlo are pleasant, friendly, courteous, professional, and above all, help out with things they donít really have to.”
Being the eldest son, and Larry being in desperate need of help, Sante was thrown into the fire and quickly learned the business of construction. With his First Aid ticket in hand, and his construction apprenticeship under way, Sante became a regular at the job site. It wasn't long after that Sante gained the respect of the sub-contractors, architects and owners. Sante continually completed projects on time and with the outmost attention to detail. From 1985 to 1999, Sante made his second home, various construction sites at the University of British Columbia.
Obviously not Larry's son, but son-in-law is close enough. Claudio started his career in the industry working as a superintendent for a large construction firm. Soon after his marriage to Larry's daughter, Tina, Claudio was soon being recruited to join the family business. Claudio's first task was to temporarily relieve Sante from UBC so he could complete the renovations to a Toronto-Dominion Bank. It has now been 7 years and Claudio remains a fixture at UBC. Claudio continues to impress the University's project managers and is often requested to be the superintendent on their projects.
After completing a Building Construction course in Alberta in 1980, Robert moved to British Columbia looking for a more challenging career. For 20 years, Robert worked in the construction industry as an estimator & project manager of various jobs. In 2001, Robert made the decision to further his career and look for a more rewarding experience in the field. With Holaco expanding, Larry needed more help in the office and Robert was a perfect fit for the company's senior estimating position.
The youngest of Larry's three children, Filippo (Fil) spent his school summer holidays working along side Larry and Sante. It was there that Fil gained the valuable work ethic that is needed in the industry today. Joining the company on a full-time basis in 2003, Fil divides his time between project managing and estimating.
Larry immigrated to Canada in 1966 and quickly adjusted to the Canadian lifestyle while maintaining his Italian culture. Working in various fields of construction, it was not until 1984 that he
decided to start his own company, Holaco Construction. With the help of some trustworthy employees, Larry was able to act as President, Secretary,
Superintendent and Janitor. Holaco soon grew as the clients gained trust in Larry's ability to run projects smoothly and efficiently. As the clientele grew, Larry soon realized he would require more help and introduced his eldest son Sante to the construction industry.
We announce with profound regret and sadness the sudden passing of Mr. Larry Zaurrini. This sad event occurred on Sunday March 15th, 2009. Larry was well loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
