General Labourer

We are looking for a GENERAL LABOURER to join the Holaco family at various locations throughout the Lower Mainland. As we continue to grow, the number, size and types of projects will also grow. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION: As a General Labourer you will be able to follow direction as a team player with excellent work ethic. You may be required to use some hand or light power tools. You will have site safety knowledge and are able to demonstrate this on the job.

GENERAL LABOURER ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Load, unload and transport construction materials to specified work areas.
  • Remove rubble and debris on the construction site and ensure proper disposal Follow safety procedures and ensure site cleanliness.
  • Tend to equipment such as mixers, compressors and pumps.
  • Other duties as requested.

REQUIREMENTS:
Must be physically fit and able to use power and hand tools. Some construction experience an asset. Must have valid BC Drivers license and reliable transportation. Estimator

We are looking for an experienced mid to senior level construction ESTIMATOR to join the Holaco family at our Burnaby head office. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION: As a Construction Estimator you will be responsible for preparing and coordinating complete estimates for tenders, primarily focusing on commercial, institutional and industrial, in both public and private sector markets throughout British Columbia.

ESTIMATOR ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine the cost effectiveness of projects to be bid.
  • Perform Risk and Contract Management responsibilities as required.
  • Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
  • Consult with clients, vendors and other stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve ant potential issues.
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality or availability of materials. Review list of work to be performed by subcontractors.
  • Review final estimate and apply strategic cost factors where necessary.
  • Monitor client changes and advise the estimating team of all changes in scope during the estimate period. Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits.
  • Advise on major changes in scope of work and monitor actual cost to estimated cost.
  • Search, analyze and communicate to the team options for the most effective means and methods of construction.
  • Prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid.

ESTIMATOR REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 6 years estimating and cost control related experience, with at least 3 years in infrastructure related construction and 3 years in industrial construction.Technical knowledge and experience bidding design-build projects in Canada is an asset. Senior Project Manager

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for project oversight from development to completion. This position oversees planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, safety and environmental compliance and permitting. This position develops project objectives and goals, directs team members and keeps management informed on progress.

PROJECT MANAGER ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, guide and manage the administrative direction during the construction phase of the project.
  • Plan, organize, direct and control the daily operations.
  • Perform Risk and Contract Management responsibilities as required.
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and monitor progress.
  • Prepare contracts, confidently negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements.
  • Liaise with the project team, clients, consultants and sub-trades to achieve a successful end result.
  • May be responsible for training and mentoring Junior Project Managers to help grow their career.

PROJECT MANAGER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in construction management, construction technology, engineering, Architecture or similar.
  • Knowledge of BC building codes
  • Understanding of building systems, building science, commercial construction practices, processes & techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret Plans and Specifications (elevations, sections, and details)
  • Computer proficiency: Excel, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD & knowledge of 3D models would be an asset
  • Ability to foresee, document, and mitigate potential problems before they occur (costs, quality, schedule)
  • An appreciation for detail and accuracy when reviewing quantities and scope of work.
  • Working knowledge of various construction disciplines, cost control, scheduling, engineering drawings
  • Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential both within the internal project team and externally with subcontractors, labor force, etc.
  • Ability to work with and have knowledge of the shop drawing submittal process.
  • Able to prioritize and meet critical deadlines independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience managing large, commercial projects
  • Experience working in commercial, multi-family residential and industrial environments
  • Confidence working with contract values over $3 million
  • Having experience in providing prequalification and construction management proposal an asset

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION: A bright and dedicated individual, the Junior Project Manager will report directly to the Senior Project Manager and assist him or her in the project oversight from development to completion. Site safety and environmental compliance and permitting awareness will be essential in this role as well as keeping the Senior Project Manager and management informed on progress.

ROLE AND RESPONSABILITIES:

Journeyman Carpenter

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a journeyman carpenters, you may be required to use a variety of tools to accurately measure, cut and join wood, drywall, fiberglass, plastic and other building materials. Depending on the job, you will frame structures and walls and install cabinets, ceilings, doors, floors, fixtures, prefabricated panels and scaffolding. As well, supervise the activities of laborers, carpenter’s helpers, and apprentices. You will have the ability and experience using measuring devices, electric saws, hammers, levels, miter boxes, pneumatic nail guns, sanding machines, and squares. Many jobs require carpenters to be able to read and act on blueprints and other plan documents.

CARPENTER ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, organize, assign, assist, supervise, and review the work of subordinates involved in the carpentry trade.
  • Ensure conformance of plans and instructions and prepare project estimates within a competitive structure.
  • Requisition of material, equipment, and labour while maintaining cost records
  • Ensure projects are completed within a specified time
  • Develop, recommend, and apply new or improved work techniques and methods
  • Employ the use of machinery, equipment, and tools applicable to the trade
  • Liaise with other Forepersons and staff to co-ordinate specific trade projects
  • Ensure that daily timesheets are prepared and completed on time
  • Ensure people under supervision are working within WCB regulations and meet standards of employment conduct
  • Effectively manage staff and address performance issues as needed
  • Provide ongoing training to subordinates and conduct tool talks as required
  • Maintain records and prepare written reports as required

CARPENTER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of a Trade Qualification (TQ) ticket in Carpentry
  • Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and provide an up-to-date Driver’s Abstract confirming a clean driving record
  • Must have 2 to 3 years of carpentry experience and thorough knowledge of carpentry methods, materials, tools and equipment
  • Must possess excellent communication and supervisory skills
  • Must have working knowledge of computer applications for purposes of report writing and emails
  • Must be able to work from rough sketches or technical diagrams and complete technical reports as required
  • Must be able to effectively carry out oral and written instructions and prepare and maintain simple work records

We are looking for an experienced mid to senior level construction LATHER and ACOUSTIC TECHNICIAN to join the Holaco family at various locations throughout the Lower Mainland. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION: As a Lather and Acoustic Technician, you will measure, cut and install steel studs and drywall sheets, cut and use a broad knife. You will fabricate and install suspended metal ceiling grids and place in panels to form acoustical and coffered ceilings.

  • Fill joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks with joint compound using trowel and broad knife

LATHER and ACOUSTIC TECHNICIAN Requirements

  • Experience as an ACOUSTIC TECHNICIAN
  • Experience working in commercial, institutional and industrial environments
  • Restoration experience an asset
  • Good written and oral English communication skills
  • Able to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Excellent work ethic, hard working and detailed orientated
  • Work 40 hours per week with flexible shifts
  • Able to lift heavy material

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION: As a Drywall Taper, you will install metal/paper bead, fill joints, nail indentations, holes and cracks with joint compound using trowel or mechanical trowling tool .Apply successive coats of compound and sand seams and joints to acceptable specified paint ready condition.
